One Firm Rule
Everyone is off the property by 3:00pm on Cowork Days. We need that time to prep for youth programming. More on that below.
The Property
The Hub sits on a one-acre property in Upland, built in 1917 as the Whitney Estate by architect Myron Hunt, the same architect behind the Rose Bowl and the Huntington Library. In 2022, YMAN became the first owners of color and the first nonprofit to own it. The history is real, and you can feel it when you are here.
The spaces you can use
-
The Convening Room is the formal gathering space on the ground floor, lined with books by authors of color from around the world. Good for facilitated sessions, board meetings, and strategy days.
-
The Youth Lounge is a full living room setup, built for the conversations that matter. Board games, entertainment, keyboards in the back room, and a community closet stocked through YMAN's partnerships with Jordan and Nike. Its thermostat is in the rock wall near the opening between rooms. Keep it between 70 and 75 degrees.
-
The Wellness Room is a space to slow down. Blankets, pillows, yoga mats, music, aromatherapy, coloring books, and Headspace on the iPad.
-
The Creator's Lab houses four computers loaded with Logic Pro for music production.
-
The Coffee Nook is off the main house. Nespresso machine, pods in the drawers, milk in the fridge, frother by the machine. Please rinse and return cups, empty pods into the recycling bag, and wipe the machine down.
-
Outdoors is some of the best of the Hub. The Veranda is the shaded front porch with large double hammocks, born from a Youth Ambassadors retreat when a young person said they would rather sleep outside, so we made it happen. The Lawn has held boxing therapy, sound baths, movie nights, and dance. The Wellness Garden, planted by YMAN youth, grows navel oranges, clementines, kumquats, Meyer lemons, pomegranates, avocado, kiwi, olives, and more, with a Zinfandel vineyard and docile beehives nearby. The Treehouse is open for relaxation, 800 lb limit and 4 adults max. The Dryscape Path winds through California native succulents with butterflies and hummingbirds around. The Summer Kitchen, an outdoor kitchen with a pizza oven, is available during retreats.
-
The Sound Studio, Sound Room, and Live Room are dedicated to YMAN's youth programs and are not part of the membership. The upstairs of the main house is also not included. Interested in studio time separately? Reach out to team@yman.org.
Contact
Your main point of contact for everything membership is Logan Schauer. Reservations, questions, day-of issues, anything else.

General inquiries: team@yman.org
If something comes up the day of your visit, running late, headcount changed, something off with the space, call or text Logan directly. We would rather know early than find out after.
We are glad you are here. Let's do good work.
